I have a 1979 55hp rude model 55975c and would like to put a 1973 50hp 50373r power head on it. I know the shafts have a different part #'s but does that really matter? Otherwise I think they will interchange.
Thanks,

Re: power head swap

I have no idea but I would go to the BRP website and start comparing part numbers. I would start with the power head base gasket. If it's different, you're probably out of luck...

Re: power head swap

Sorry wont work as totally different powerhead footprint and gearcase. The 55 uses the small "nitro" gearcase and driveshaft is smaller. Power heads that interchange with each other are listed below:
1971-75.....50hp
1979-80.....50/55hp
1976-78.....55hp
