I had a 12 volt 4 cup coffee maker, It took over 1/2 hour to run the water through. By the time it was done, the coffee was not even luke warm. Since coffee is an important to our enjoyment on the water, I had an 1800 watt inverter installed so I could use a regular household coffee maker. Problem solved.

Most marine inverters do indeed have an automatic switch built in. Not sure what type of inverters youve been looking at. Our inverter is around 10 years old and it has an automatic switch built in, its nothing new.

This is going nowhere. I could post links to inverters without automatic transfer switches. It would be pointless.

If you're thinking of buying one and need a transfer switch, it would be wise to make sure the one you select has this feature. If it doesn't, you cannot just "hard wire" it into your boat's electrical system.

Either way, this is not a project for the casual "harry homeowner" who has learned how to change a light switch to tackle. It is far more complicated than that.

I remember seeing a hand written sign below the 12 volt coffee makers at West Marine explaining that they were slow and asking folks not to bring them back because of this.

You should use 600 watts power inverter. Most such inverters are connected directly to the 12-volt battery and have three or more grounded outlets for powering several products at the same time.
