need some help... i hard wired an 1100 watt, 2200 watt peak inverter from my battery bank to my cabin. its about 6-7 ft from the battery, its wired with 4 gauge wire, with a 60 amp heat resistance fuse. the inverter is a power bright 1100 , it has a LED indicator display which you can flip to display either how many volts are going in, or how many watts are being drawn. volts show 12.5

now here is my problem, i plug a 600 watt (cooking power, real power is probably more) when i choose the LED to display watts, the microwave quickly draws up to 500watts, then once it reaches 500 the inverter shuts down??? it does this even with the engine on, and in high idle. anyone know why its doing this? batteries too low? bad connection? cheap inverter? anyone? thanks!

btw i even tried temporarily bypassing the fuse by taking it out and connecting the two wires with an alligator end. same result.

Re: power inverter not working properly??

Could be that the 4 gauge wire isn't heavy enough to handle the draw off the battery bank. If I remember the conversions correctly, the 600 watts = 5 amps @ 120 volts meaning you will need at least 50 amps from the battery. The inverter may be faulting out from low input.

Type inverter into the advanced search and you'll find a number of discussions by people who know a lot more about this than I do.
