I HAVE A '97 EVINRUDE OCEAN PRO. IT STARTS FINE AND SOUNDS GREAT IN NEUTRAL. WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR AND TRY TO PROCEED, IT RUNS TERRIBLE. I HAD A PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO WITH SOME KIND OF SENSOR SWITCH THAT IS SUPPOSED TO CUT OUT 3 CYLINDERS TO PROTECT THE ENGINE WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE . I DON'T REMEMBER THE TERMINOLOGY FOR THIS SWITCH . I WONDER IF IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. WHEN IT WAS IN DRY DOCK THE MECHANIC CAME AND TUNED IT UP AND ALL WAS FINE. IT IS ONLY UNDER LOAD THAT THIS HAPPENS. THANKS FOR ANY IDEAS.

bobb,<br /> The shift switch(interrupter) is located on the same side as the control cables/linkages.It is on the bottom of the intake manifold below the lower carb.
