This summer and yesterday most severely, I noticed that the engine is having difficulty planing the boat and it takes a lot more throttle. Last summer, I installed a K&N spark arrestor and the engine had a lot more power. Before, if I had more than four people, we had to play the weight shifting game to get on plane. After the installation, the engine was able to do it with 8 people!
Now, with four people, we were barely able to get on plane and just barely holding on with WOT. Any waves or anything, and she would fall off.
Any ideas? Is it possible the air filter has become clogged with the rubber particulate that seemed to clog the original spark arrestor? Could such a dramatic loss of power be attributable to plugs and wires? The engine does not miss and runs smooth.
