All,
I was wondering if someone could help me out with a compatibility issue. I have a 1977 Johnson V-4 140. I appear to have a shot power pack which is prohibiting spark. I believe (correct me if I am wrong) the P/N of my power pack is 581731. I recently found a power pack on ebay for a very attractive asking price. The model number however does not jive with what I beleive I am looking for. The description of the pack I am looking at on ebay is: "This is a used CD type power pack for Johnson and Evinrude 1973 - 1977 V-4 outboards. It is P/N 581895 and was taken off of a running engine."
The power packs "look" the same the best I can tell. I have contacted the sellar and he believes this will work for my application. Can someone confirm/deny if this pack will indeed work with my application? He assures me that he tested it when he got it, and that it has been stored indoors since then. He says he used to be in the parts business and is selling all his leftover stock. For the asking price I am tempted to take a gamble...if it will work for my application. You guys have always been dead on for me in the past, so thanks in advance for any help you can provide on this.. :)

Hi FISHNTXCST,

I don't know if the two are interchangeable, but here's a new one for $83.50 that will certainly work. What does he want for the used one?

web page

Re: power pack compatibiility

MCM,
I have the 140TL77S, so it looks like it will work. Thanks a lot for taking the time to look that up for me. I wasn't aware the BRP website offered that info. Thx!
Rickd,
It is ebay, so you never know what it will end up by the end of the auction. I will keep that in mind if the bidding gets more than I am willing to pay for a used one.

Re: power pack compatibiility

Glad it helped, as for the BRP site, if you use the advanced feature instead of normal you can cross reference p/n compatability among other things.
