Welcome wittlou!

When you say it won't crank, does that mean it won't start or the engine won't turn over with the starter?

It's a good idea to have the timing checked when the power pack is replaced.

Re: power pack replacing

Is the engine new to you or have you had it a while? If you've had it a while, what were the circumstances of replacing the pack? History of the engine/problem helps.

Are you sure your getting fuel? Is the emergency switch key in place?

motor is 1992 evinrude 120 i've had about 5 yrs. Starts quick with old power pack but sometimes will throttle back from full rpm 5300 to about 2,000 rpm . Getting plenty of fuel . Had same problem with a 1992 60hp rude a couple years ago replaced power pack works fine .

motor is 1992 evinrude 120 i've had about 5 yrs. Starts quick with old power pack but sometimes will throttle back from full rpm 5300 to about 2,000 rpm . Getting plenty of fuel . Had same problem with a 1992 60hp rude a couple years ago replaced power pack works fine . I replaced 120hp last year with sierra power pack (engine was was still warm) and it started and would run at full throttle good but over next few weeks was taking longer to start and at last would not start put old power pack on started right up . Thinking power pack was faulty I got sierra to replace it but still same problem not starting . Well I can get by with old power pack for now but the only thing I can think of is timing of engine between old part and new is so great to the point it want start ......is there another problem that is causing this or is it normal that engine needs retiming to even start when replacing power packs.....Thanks

Re: power pack replacing

The original power pack on your motor incorporates both QuikStart and S.L.O.W.

QuikStart advances the timing when the engine is cold and allows for the easy starting that you have come to expect. The black and white sender wire off the port cylinder head temperature sensor is the signal wire that tells the power pack to advance the timing.

S.L.O.W is also activated by the same wire when the sensor signals that you have an overheated condition,
When the engine overheats, the powerpack reduces the engine RPM to 2500 and will not let you override it until you turn the engine off AND the engine cools back to < 162º.

There are blocking diodes in the wiring harness that prevent other warning signals from reaching the S.L.O.W. sytem.

What Sierra part number are you installing? Does it incorporate both S.L.O.W and QuikStart? You will want both.
