Re: Power packs

The only person I know of repairing one of those things was Schematic. He sez if you can get the potting material away from the pc board you might be able to repair it. He also sez (unless it's been shorted out) that most of the time, the problem is a bad solder joint on the board.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Power packs

Hi Lyman
I don't think the ampilfier can be rebuilt. There is a hay-wire way around this system using an automotive type coil . Some guy's say they can use automotive boxes from the wrecking yard. I have never attemped any of this so I can't say how well it works. Do a search on this board on this one, there have been volumes written. As far as the rotor and rotor cap are concerned, bend over. How ever unless these pieces are broken or found to be leaking, etc. Just clean them up and run them. As per an OMC SB don't replace them just for the replacing. The sierra co. should have most of the after market parts you will need. They my also have an after market wire harness. I know Joe said they didn't exist anymore and he's probably right, but it dosn't hurt to ask and that part is still free. So how are these motors panning out? From this post, so far I'd say parr for the course. Let us know whats going on, and if I can send you any info just let me know.

Re: Power packs

You may be able to find a harness from Rapair. They do offer some harness for the older OB's as well as "rebuilt" power packs. They have a web site. Search Rapair.

(I ain't quite figured out how to do links yet.)

Jim

Lyman,
Another good place to try for a power pack is the classifieds on this site:
www.aomci.org
specifically tailored for the older iron and us old farts who fart with them.

TWM
