Re: power steering leak

You spilled something or have a leak and you need to find out where it is coming from and fix it.

Re: power steering leak

I have a Sea Star hydro. Had leaks in both front cylinder and back one. I was able to fix the back but the front just seem to justify the cost vs. time and energy. I found a used one on C-list. If it "clicks" when you turn the wheel, odds are it's shot

I have a Uflex that did /dose the same thing. First time I had it looked at Uflex replaced the head. 1 find the leak. Could be the seals in the back of the unit behind the dash board. The pressure during temp change can blow the seals> Now that i have them all replaced, I crack the fill port at the wheel. It wheeps a little but not like it did. If it grinds when you turn the wheel, there could be something in the pump, or needs more fluid, air in the lines. These things are a crap shoot. I got the best info from uflex, and seastar. The vent cap/fill port i feel dose not allow for the pressure the system builds as the boat heats up and cools down. Pressure purges the expanding fluid out of that port resulting in a yellow knee and slick floors.

Thanks for most of the responses. I finally spoke to my mechanic; says likely the "quadra-seal" is bad. $9.00 part, 1 hr. fix. . . . we'll see!
