Power Steering

I have in 4.3L Mercruiser inboard/outboard and my power steering is not working like it used to. Where I used to be able to turn the wheel with one finger I have found it now takes a lot more effort to turn the wheel (but much easier than with the engine off). I checked the power steering fluid and it is at the right level. I hadn't run the boat since last fall. Does this sound like I need a whole new power steering unit or something else?

Re: Power Steering

from the helm to the motor they use the standard teleflex cable, there is a connection at the outdrive, that this connects to the power steering mechanism. possible new steering cable need. how old is it?

Re: Power Steering

The boat is a '75 Glasply. Don't know how old the cable is. If forgot to mention that when I first tried to turn the steering wheel with the engine off or on it wouldn't budge. It moved after several attempts and continues to function ok but with more effort than normal.

Re: Power Steering

there are a lot of factors, access to remove and get the new cable in. the cable process is easy. the routing is the question.

Re: Power Steering

Hi guys, not to but in but are there adjustments on the cable going into the power steering cylinder to remove play in wheel? I have the same setup as the one discussed here. It uses a Teleflex SSC-134-15 unit. Thanks
