Hey guys, newbie here. I have a 1998 Sea Ray 190 with a 4.3L EFI Merc. My question is: mounted to the front of the engine is what looks like a GM power steering pump, however, whether the engine is running or not, the steering forces are the same. Is there fluid in it you ask? Yes, and I can't find any leaks. So if this isn't a steering pump, what the hell is it?

Confused.

Re: Power Steering

Probably the Cable that runs between the Helm,+ the P/S unit.........

To Make Sure,...... Disconnect the Cable at the Drive end,.. where it hooks to the P/S unit....
Then,... Either the Steering Wheel,..... Or the Drive should Move Freely,....
Whichever Doesn't,.....Is the Issue.........

The Cable's Not serviceable,+ Will need to be Replaced.......
The price of a Complete Helm,+ Cable makes it Not Worth changing Just the Cable.......

The Cable Length is Usually printed On the cable,... Within a few feet of the Tiller-End of the Cable...On the Outer Housing.....

Then order the right length cable with a Helm that matches the 1 there Now........

:) Good Luck,+ Welcome to the forums here at iboats............... ;)
