I understand that the pressure control vale must be changed out...Is that the piston and spring and the screw out fitting?
Had my old and new on work bench felt like different spring pressure on the non merc one... the fitting's looked the same.
Thanks

Yes
It is where the pressure line screws in to

All things considering, if it's a common Saginaw/ GM pump as I suspect it probably is. The part you need is probably not all that common. Saginaw produced those pumps for Ford, Chrysler, GM, Jeep AND they were used in marine applications. I know Mercruiser did. They all have different pressures/ flows between models and it's the piston/ spring that changes. I don't think you want wonky steering..

this also means that if you ever need a new pump, you can save those from the old pump and buy a $30 Reman for a 80 something GM car
