Hi,
Has anyone ever tried one of these. I am told they are equivalent to a OMC/BRP SST propeller.

Thanks Jason

Several friends and I use them. They are great props. They have a variety of styles for different applications. You may want to call them with your set up and what you want to achieve prior to purchasing one.

Re: Power Tech Propellers???

Thanks Shep,

I checked out their website. They only offer 2 models for my motor(2004 50HP Johnson 2 stroke), a 3 or 4 blade model. I would be going with the 3 blade. However you are correct, they do offer many prop options for other motors, just not mine.

Two other questions, they offer the same prop with a satin or a polished finish. When they say "satin" do they mean its painted or just the colour of the steel?
Also what would the advantage be to have it polished? would it be noticeable, performance wise?

Thanks in advance, Jason

Satin just means that it's not polished... It will have a dull look to it but it's not painted. The polished wheels actually give you a little more top end speed (so I've been told) but that's for high hp engines/boat set ups. Another thing with the polished props is that they look puuuuuurdy.

I just winterized a boat with one of those Satin props. It has a rather crude finish with lots of fine scratch marks. Regarding performance, I doubt there'd be more than a fraction of a mph difference between a polished and satin finish. Looked like a nice prop. :)

Their props are kinda pricey. I suggest going to the Prop Finder at the top of this page and take a look at what they have. You can pick up a nice Michigan Wheel Rapture SST for half the price. I purchased a MW Ballistic last week...now them there props are puuuuuurdy! Fast shipping too.
Ordered it last Monday via cheap UPS ground. Received it Wednesday.

KIguy52, if you can, let us know how the Ballistic performs for ya.
Compared to what you were running, that is.

Re: Power Tech Propellers???

Nice prop. I have a lightweight 14' Starcraft open boat with an old '92 25 hp Merc tiller. I replaced the stock aluminum 11-3/4x13 with a Ballistic 11-3/4x15 3 blade. I'm real happy with the result. Motor is much smoother, i.e, my hand doesn't tingle at the end of the day anymore. I don't have a speedo, but I can tell by the spray that the boat's faster. I can tach it down to the "sweet spot" and it's as fast as it used to be at wot. I have the motor jacked up about 2" because I run in shallow water...1'-2'. Because of this, the stock prop used to cavitate bad in turns. I haven't been able to make this prop cavitate. So far the only down side is that I have to tilt the motor up at the dock now because the prop's so nice and I like to look at it. Too bad the rest of the motor looks like crap (it's painted camo for duck hunting) but it runs pretty good.

I happen to know a couple of the folks at Power Tech. They not only make the props but are very helpful in making sure you get the right prop for not only your boat but also what you will be using the boat for. They supply props to Honda and Yamaha as well as retail

Well, I ended up buying a Powertech and love it. I have tried 3 name brand props and my OEM aluminum. This was the best prop I've tried on my boat.

Next time I'm due for a prop change Powertech is the first place I will be looking.

Jason

Good to hear you found a good match, Jason.
Proves also that each prop works different on each application.
Have fun and enjoy!
