Hello everyone. I have 1995 Bayliner 2050 Capri Bowrider with Mercruiser A1, Gen II, 5.0 V8 Inboard... Well this past weekend was the first voyage for the year! My winterizing and summerizing went very well. I was able to lift and lower my engine while prepping for the weekend.
When the boat was launched though... there was no response to trying to lower the engine.. I could hear something from the pump... like it was trying to lower the engine but nothing. I went back to the pump and double-checked that there was oil in it... and then I checked all wired connections and what not. Then my engine lowered. For the rest of the weekend I had no other problems....but I'm just not sure this is the last of it. I guess I should recheck the connections and clean all connections? If so... what type of cleaner. Also...anything else I can do ?
With all of this in mind... Here's some more info I'm hoping someone can clarify for me because I tend to think that I've had issues since I've bought this boat - this probably sounds strange... this is my first boat so I'm not sure exactly what's expected here. So on the Side Mount Control (Quicksilver and as far as I know stock) there are 2 separate buttons to lower/raise the engine at any given time. On the handle, I have a trim button that I can press up to raise and down to lower. I understand this is the trim... not exactly raising/lowering for launching/trailering, but I'm not sure. Anyhoo... then there's another button on the bottom lower-right corner of the throttle. This is one button that either raises/lowers the engine (the previous owner told to use this to lowere/raise engine but that at times I might have to use the other button (trim). So the way it has always worked is that let's say if the engine is up all the way, and the lower button does not do anything (no noise from the pump) I have to use the trim to lower it...or vice-versa.
How is this supposed to work...? thx so much.. the forum has always been great to me!
