Power Tilt and Trim wont go down

Howdy Folks!
Having a particular problem with the PTT on my 2000 Nissan Outboard. To begin with, while underway and at rest, it wanted to tilt up by itself and I would have to watch it and tilt it back down. Then it would tilt up but not down. I would push the switch down and it would just click. I reversed the leads from the switch and down makes it tilt up but up does nothing, just click. I changed the down solenoid and it did the same thing. I reversed the leads from the tilt motor (green and blue) to the solenoids and green connected to the up solenoid will make it go down. Again, Up lead (blue) connected to down solenoid just clicks and reversing the leads from the tilt switch has same results as before, anything connected to down solenoid just clicks. Checked all wires with a voltage meter from both switches (on motor and remote at console) all through the diagram and everything has voltage. Wiring overall looks good.
Any help anyone can provide is much appreciated.

it sounds more like a switch or wiring problem. When relays break they usually just don't work. When stuff gets stuck in the "on" position it is more often a wiring short than anything else. A broken switch would be next most likely suspect.

Will the switch still give off good voltage from the leads if it's broken? How do I know which switch is bad: the one on the motor or the one at the console.

use a voltmeter and measure relay voltage at coil input. on bosch type relays this is pin # 85 or 86. One side of coil is ground and other is control from your dash.

Okay, I checked both switches and they all have juice. Checked green lead going into PTT motor and it has juice when the switch is activated but motor does nothing and solenoid just clicks. When I reverse the leads from the PTT motor, green to the up solenoid will make it go down but blue to the down solenoid just clicks. It seems to me that the circuit is shorting somewhere before it gets to the PTT motor, but I can't find it.

based on above I would guess that either ground has come loose from relay #87a or that your trim motor has internal issues.

i had the same problem with mine i took a jumperwire from batt.to the center post found i had a bad switch in the down position would go up but not down
