Hey guys.
Just trying to fix my power tilt, it's a 1972 Evinrude 100HP. It's the older power tilt type (not tilt/trim). Basically if I tilt the motor up it'll slowly drop/creep back down in a space of 10 seconds.
Now the rams work beautifully, the motor tilts up and down great however the hydraulic side of it seems to be failing, I can't spot any oil leaks.
The manual release valve is confusing, it doesn't completely screw in or out, I feel some resistance then it just keeps turning like a stripped bolt, unless it's directional?? It's always best in the diagonal position anywhere else and the motor instantly drops.
Finally I took out the oil filler plug out and red fluid (looked like 95le transmission fluid to me) came out, I ran the tilt up and down a few times and it actually takes far longer (a couple of minutes compared to 10 seconds) to creep down now. Seems as though I bled some air out or something.
Do I have air in the system or something similiar??? I'd keep tilting it up and down but I'm not sure if that's the right way to bleed it. I don't want to damage it now I see it might actually be repairable!!
Anyone know what the next step is??
Thanks.
