Power Tilt Not Working Going Down

Hello, I have a 2018 Mercury 40HP 4 Stroke outboard. Today I went out in the boat & when I unloaded it at the boat ramp the power switch on the throttle handle worked perfectly going up or going down. I was in the water for a while and anchored on the edge of the shore and raised motor up out of the water. Later I went to leave and put the motor back down into the water with the power tilt switch on the throttle handle it would not go down. It would go up but not down.

I went to the motor itself and it has a button on the side of the motor to let the motor up or down and it worked going up and down still. (Glad it did as I have no idea how to lower motor back into water if it had not worked). So question is anyone know what could be the cause of this happening? Again power tilt works going up & down on the button on the side of the motor but power tilt on the throttle handle only works going up and not going down? Thanks for any info and help.

Bad switch on the throttle handle or bad connection at throttle handle switch

You likely have bullet connectors where the PTT wires on the throttle handle plug into the PTT wiring harness on the motor. Look for a disconnected bullet connector or a corroded one.

I had the same problem with a 90hp yamaha. Turned out to be a bad relay. I could hear the relay click when the switch was activated but the motor would not move. The switch on the motor would work but the helm down switch would not. I kept thinking that the helm switch was the problem. but turned out to be the relay. Having a problem with my Mercury 150 2 stroke now as it will raise by itself without warning or anyone touching anything. Waiting on a new relay now to see if my problem is fixed.
