power tilt stops then restarts

Power tilt on Johnson 1990 VRO 40 hp will start (up or down) then run for 5 seconds or so then stop. After waiting 10 seconds it will tilt some more. I suspect this is the overheat sensor on the electric motor, but don't know how to analyze this or fix it. The relays all stay in and power is stll applied to the tilt motor when it stops.

Does the pump motor just stop running and you still have power to it? Looking at the manual, it doesn't show a thermal overload. <br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

Also, check all electrical connections at T&T and battery.

Motor stops but relays stay in. Manual claims there is a thermal overload built into the motor. This is a reasonable explanation, but I don't know what causes the overload.
