Power tilt trim switch

I would like to install a tilt/trim switch at the bow of my 98 Lund equipped with 115 Johnson. I have identified the wires from the switch on the motor. The same color wires I have located from the throttle control handle leading under the dash to the tilt/trim gauge located on the dash. Can I make the connection there to my new switch on the bow? What gauge wire will accommodate this switch? The instructions seem to be straight forward but don't want to damage the gauge or anyone the other switches. Thanks

Re: Power tilt trim switch

need to know the year of the motor. The trim gauge wiring is not connected to the trim up and down switch it is 2 of 5 wires from the trim relay box on the motor. The easiest place to add to will be the trim relay control box but it is possible to add to the controller if you can make a water tight connection. personally i would try to find some 16g 3 core wire and just go from the switch to the relay control box under the cowling on the motor and add a extra inline fuse for the front switch. A word of warning the switch at the bow must be water tight like a toggle with a rubber boot or when it rains your motor will trim up (been there done that). If you plan to do it at the other switch then you will proberly have to cut into the red/green/blue wires (red power - blue up - green down)

You'll probably have the best luck tapping into the trim switch wires at the control box handle. Agree on a waterproof, heavy duty switch for your bow area switch. Match the gauge of wires at the control box.

Thanks for your advice. It is a 98 Johnson. I have identified the three wires leading from motor to tilt/trim switch on throttle shift handle. 3 wires grn/wht blu/wht red and the instructions that came with the switch identifies the wire match up. Plan to make connection between motor and throttle shift handle; unless I get informat otherwise. Thanks again.

Re: Power tilt trim switch

It appears your right. Planning to jump the wires between control box and motor. Thanks for your response.
