Hello, I have a 72 mercury 1150 on a 72 Glastron GT150. the power tilt motor seems to be making noise; however, the motor does not move. I think the seals are bad - does anyone know what type of fluid the cylinders require and where to get a rebuild kit for the power trim/tilt cylinders?

Re: Power tilt

That PTT unit should use 5W-30 motor oil. However stick a q-tip in the resovoir and see if they used ATF (clear red). if so, you shouldn't mix.

There was a rebuild kit for the trim cylinders from Mercury and maybe others (Sierra??). it consisted of several o rings and the teflon Piston seal. The teflon seal required a special tool to install. The orings were easy to install. You will need to make up a spanner to open the cylinder.

Re: Power tilt

Tried to fill the cylinder and found 2 quarts of oil in the boat because the oil reservoir had a faulty seal. Problem is resolved!

Re: Power tilt

The power tilt motor only operates in the up position. The motor rotates on one direction; however, the solenoid will click both ways. Any idea what may be the problem
