'97 200 Evinrude--Ok pros, here's the problem: PT&T leaks due to pitting on the hydraullic ram shaft. The illustrated parts catalog describes the hydraullic ram as the "rod and eye." Its basically the shaft that comes out of the hydraullic cylinder and connects to the engine via a pivoting pin.
It still works but leaks every time I use it. The pitting on the shaft is very minute but can be felt with your fingernail and is definitely the cause of the o-ring failure. I have the o-rings but need to do something with the pitted shaft. Can it be repaired or will I have to buy a new "rod and eye"? I priced a new "rod and eye" and its very expensive--almost the cost of replacing the entire PT&T unit with a rebuilt one. Is there a fix for this or am I looking at an R&R? Remove and Replace.
Thanks,
