Re: power trim/classic fifty/1986

A power trim unit uses solenoids to make the pump " pump " work in a particular direction by way of the sitches at hand. The pump motor housing has fill points for whatever type of fluid the housingh to fill it with. Its like a brake system on a car and has to bled of all air. Look for corrosion on all your electrical connections. The navy does it once a week.
Capt. Emmer
who hates corrosion

I have the same problem. My tilt/trim just clicks. I have an old trim/tilt assy, the hydraulic reservoir is located inside the boat. Anyway, the problem with mine is the trim motor. My dealer had it rebulit and in the process of installing right now. Hopefully everything works. It's costing me 250.00 for the rebuild, plus removal and installation.

There some advice that I saw that say check the solenoids. One for up and one down. It's not likely that both of them would go bad at the same time so my guess is it's your trim motor. Hope this helps.
