Hello, I have a question about my PTT unit: The motor is new to me. The original PTT system bled down and would not hold at WOT. The motor pumped fine with no abnormal noises. Because of the bleed down, I purchased another used PTT unit and installed on the motor. It would not bleed down, however after one afternoon yesterday on the lake, the motor would not trim down (you could hear it running though). So, I then installed the original motor on the second unit thinking that the second motor was bad.

When installed, the first motor made some rough noises when trimming up and down and I noticed it getting hot. It stopped working altogether after several rough up and down cycles throughout the trim range. It was topped off with fluid, and did not seem to have air bubbles.

The trim cylinders and tilt ram do not appear to be frozen as they worked all day on the lake yesterday until the motor went out. The unit can be manually tilted up and down with the release valve. I find it odd that when I re-installed the first motor today that it made rough, almost grinding type noises when running, when it did not do that before on the first unit even though the first unit would bleed down.

If I buy a new motor with the modern relays to replace the solenoids, is there anything about the tilt ram/trim cylinder themselves that could be binding the motor and making it hot? The trim cylinders do not bleed down, but something is apparently cooking the motor pretty quickly and causing rough sounds. Or, am I maybe better off looking for another completely used unit? I'm afraid if I buy a new motor, that if it's something amiss in the unit itself that I could fry the motor. Of course, a motor is still cheaper than a complete used unit.

Thoughts?
