power trim on merc 800

havent done much research on this yet, but id thought id try here first. i got a 1970 mercury 800 and would like to put power trim/ tilt on it. anyone know what i need exactly, such as can you put a new one on, or does it have to be specific for that motor. also how much $$$ it will be. any help would be great, thanks

They make an aftermarket version that is relatively inexpensive, or you can try a marine salvage yard and get a complete OEM unit.

Mac, To install an OEM PTT requires you remove the tilt shocks and reverse lock device. Now replace the top shock mount rod in your motor's clamp bracket, with the one for PTT. Now you will need to bolt on the PTT trim brackets and cylinders and install the pump, wiring harness and hoses. Now fill and bleed the system and you are good.

Mac, I think I misspoke about the top shock mount rod. I think the manual tilt and the PTT share the same rod. The trim cylinders do not share the same upper mount however. The current upper shock mount bolt will be used to fasten the trim brackets to the clamp bracket.
