power trim on poontoon

I have a 1984 24ft poontoon with a 70hp johnson what i would like to know is did theese boats have to have the power trim?

Have to have them? No, not really, but they sure help with getting the bow up and getting some of the pontoon out of the water. Better fuel mileage too.
Just don't want to trim too much cause you will be pushing the back of the pontoons down into the water creating drag which will defeat the purpose.
