power trim question

ok here goes it i got a 1982 mercury 75 hp with power trim my question is will it work on a 1970's mercury 85 hp i think it will bolt up ok it's just thats one wire goin to my switch box on the 82 and on the 70's motor don't have a switch box so where would i hook that wire up is it a power wire or a ground and if i'm correct by just looking at the wire's goin to the trim it just gets the power from the main silonoid can someone plz help me out

If the PTT unit is the two trim cylinder w/ four hoses, it should work on the Merc 850. BTW- Merc does not show a 75HP motor was made in 1982. As for the switchbox, if the '82 motor has 4 coils, and the 70s 850 has a distributor, it will not work. If they both have four coils, it might work.

Power to the PTT unit is via seperate cables to the battery.

ok well the marina told me it was a canadian 75 hp maybe they are wrong...lol...anyways the 75 has 4 coils where the 850 has a dist. iwas goin to chance the whole mouting bracket the only thing i see thow is 2 siliniods and one power wire running to the starter siliniode that feeds power to the trim unit and one wire running to the switch box is this power wire or a ground or constance power for the trim unit because it did work without the key on before
