Power trim 76 115 evinrude/johnson
I have a 115 johnson with a power trim that works. It goes up, down but won't hold up. It keeps sinking. Is this bad seals or something else? My dad said he replaced the seals/ or they looked fine. (Can't remember what he said) also there's an intermittent spark issue. It runs great then cuts out and runs on two. I don't have the motor yet but. I'm eager to start tearing into this. I possibly might get my hands on an 1984 140hp evinrude with a blown power head. Would the electrical be the same? Is it interchangeable? I have a 16' sidewinder that's dieing to get into the water. Sorry for all the questions but I'm on a tight budget and can't fork out $3000 on a running decent engine. Thanks

1976 115 should be the dual rams and a saddle system?

that system has three areas of interest.

First, the manual release needs to be tightened. When healthy only a small amount of torque is needed to seal. If you apply too much torque then you can damage it.

second, the rams typically develop wiper problems in the 20-25 year range. The plastic scrapers in top center of your rams need to be in good condition or they can let water in. Water creates internal rust and internal rust creates extremely expensive repairs. Its worth the time to inspect your wipers and keep them healthy.

Third, evinrude used two pump manufacturers. Calco and prestolite. Calco pumps are perfectly round with a cable straight down into the top. If you ever need a calco pump or motor repair then just throw it away and find a used prestolite off ebay. The prestolite has four fins on the reservoir that align with four mounting ears on the pump. After 18-25 years the check valves in pumpbegin to leak and the system drifts down. With time the drift down gets worse until it is difficult to trailer the boat. Prestolite stopped making recreational hydraulics in 1992. Adequarte quality replacement motors are on ebay for 150ish. Nice motors $230ish. I do not know if anyone is making or selling replacement valve bodies. You can get them rebuilt for under $100.

Thanks a lot man. I'll check that manual valves a well as the cylinders. As for the running on two I guess that's a different thread.
