2003 Yamaha F90. Last fall my power trim would move up and down with no problems but you could watch as it was in the trim position sink downwards.

We opend the system and bled some air out of it and it worked much better how ever while running the engine will sink back down every 2 or 3 minutes.

The engine is not used in salt water, is garge kept and can't beleive that the seals / wipers would go bad in this short of time.

Any suggestons ?

1) If I need to re-build the pump can I do this without removing the engine ?
2) Are the parts seals wipers etc avaialble ?
3) Any Special tools ? Spanner Wrench ?

Thanks

Re: Power Trim Slowly Sinking Down

New development. I went to open the top oil plug to see if air was in the system to find that the top nut /plug was stripped. Thus was not air tight letting air into the system.

What is my fix ?

Healy coil ? Self tapping nut ? How do you install either without getting metal filing into the oil resevoir ?

I still may have another problem after I fix the top plug and get an air tight seal.

Thanks for looking and you help.

Re: Power Trim Slowly Sinking Down

I had this problem with my 200hp when I first got it the trim would not work so I put some fluid in it and it was stuck in the up position. There is a manual release screw in mine on the right side that I unscrewed and the motor lowered it self. I apparently did not tighten the screw all the way and it would slowly fall.Thought about it for a week before I went to tighten the screw and all is well now. Maybe yours has one too I am not sure.Mine is 1985. Good luck with the stripped plug....that stinks.
