Power Trim / Tilt Hose - replacement question

ENGINE: 2004 Volvo Penta 4.3 GL out of a Four Winns Freedom 180 boat.
OUTDRIVE: Volvo Penta TSK SX-M.

ISSUE: At least one of the tilt/trim hoses is leaking very slightly. Cause: I made a really sharp turn to the right while at sea so I could miss hitting a surfer who was way too far out. I can't tell where the hose failure was until I get the hose out. It doesn't look like the leak is around the metal - looks like the plastic.

FIX: I went to a local marine store and found part number Sierra 18-2133 as the replacement hose(s). One of the original hoses has a marking of PTH-3, 3000 psi, series 92 fittings. This part was hard to find as it is not listed in my manual. Copying it here to help others find the part number.

HELP Requested: Mainly I am looking for good advice from someone with experience replacing these hoses. Should I remove the outdrive or are there some useful pointers I should follow that will make it easy to do the replacement? I really don't want to have to pull the whole outdrive assembly off of the boat if I can help it. It looks like I should be able to wrench on the hose with a 7/16 wrench but the space is pretty limited to work in. Since I might have to pull the outdrive someday could you also recommend a good maintenance manual that covers maintenance like this? I've got decent experience working on cars and trucks in my garage - have just never dug into a boat before.

Part numbers are NOT in service manuals. They change too often.
All you had to do to find the right part number is go to the top of this forum and click on Volvo Penta Parts. It will take you to the official VP parts lists. With the part numbers. From those numbers, you can convert to aftermarket parts very easily. But you need the right number first. Very seldom is a pn found a part the actual part of of the part.

Thanks mate, found that link about 62.3 seconds after posting this. That's exactly what I needed when I was looking for parts; and would expect to actually be in a boats owner manual. oh well.

Too bad those links do not point to recommended procedures for how to replace them. That's really what I am after.

The owners manuals are just that, basics. For part numbers you need a parts lookup program. As I mentioned before, part numbers change all the time, and no way could an owners manual show new part numbers.
As far as repair details, that's in service manuals, not owners manuals.
Owners manual are not used for engine and drive repair. Just basic information.
Even the service manuals are not designed for DIYers, they are designed for Volvo techs that go to the training schools and other tech training.
You could probably go to an aftermarket manual, which basically takes the oem manuals and use about 1/4 of the information. But leave out the important stuff and then make a lot of mistakes along the way.

Look at where they are at, it's obvious you have to remove the drive and the bellhousing to get to where the lines connect at the transom shield. There are details in the manual on how to do both. But the manual assumes you can figure out you have to pull the drive and the bellhousing. From the trim cylinder, it's simple, lefty loosy, righty tighty. and the lines come off.

Now, if you say you don't have an OEM service manual for your drive, perhaps you should look around the site, especially the Adults Only sticky at the top of this forum.
Like any forum on the internet, the "Stickies" usually mean something.

Be sure to use a line wrench on them too....a regular open end wrench and you can have a hard time not getting them off.

Thanks mate, I can see what you mean.

I got lucky and figured it out myself today. I lowered the front of the boat this morning and then trimmed the stern drive all of the way down. Then I turned the wheel all of the way to the left. This gave me enough room to get a wrench in but not a lot of room to operate. A short 7/16 wrench could have gotten me in if I could find one...

I took a 7/16 line wrench and put it under a torch for a while and got a bend to it. Now I have a custom line wrench. Glad I didn't have to do the "obvious" thing and take the whole freaking stern unit off.

You SHOULD (read BETTER) be taking that outdrive off yearly and greasing the splines and checking the aligment, or you WILL be getting into some expensive fixes.
