power trim

i have 76 merc 500 mounted on my center console. i want to install a 77 merc 70 hp. can i use my existing power trim/ tilt with the 70?? it is the model with the trim motor and pump in the boat and the cylinders on the outside of swivel housing. the 70 has similar looking lift assists (pistons?) but they are not power. has anyone done this before??
