Greetings, I am pretty new to boating and was wondering if it is normal to have power to your trim on an outboard motor wired "hot" (no key req.) I just got my boat from the dealer (Used) and they put in new guages and a shifter for the Merc 100 that is on the boat.

Thanks

Re: Power Wiring

Hello Slowwake,

yes, it is normal. Moreover, the power wires are usually routed through a separate fuse, so that you can still raise your outdrive even if you blow the main fuse to everything else on the boat.

I found out the hard way when I blew the main fuse once and everything on my boat stopped working (including the engine). I had to load the boat on the trailer and raise the outdrive. God, was I glad that the outdrive has separate fuse and circuitry :)

Happy boating!
Lou

Re: Power Wiring

Lou, thanks for the response. I will watch out for the fuse on the outdrive.
