I want to use the power head of the 85HP on the 80HP Is there something i am not doing right or will it not work. When i bought it the man said it would work. Any help i would be greatfull.

Re: Powerhead change

Those 2 engines use a differant exhaust plate (as you know now) the only way to make that exchange is to by also exchanging the torque tube (mid section)

Re: Powerhead change

The simplist thing to do would be to get the whole mid section off the powerhead you want to use (torque tube, mount clamps exhuast plate and etc.) and slide your lower unit into and your good to go

Re: Powerhead change

Hi all. Can anyone tell me what other mid section will work such as a 90 hp to 115HP. As in the other post this is a 85HP Merc and cant seem to find one without paying an arm and a leg.I can find the 115 easy and a few in between but not the 85 hp. Any help i would be greatfull. Thanks.

Re: Powerhead change

Merc1, I had always thought the 85-115 inline midsections were the same. I made that assumption because I kow the lower units will interchange. Perhaps you cam match up the part numbers on the exhaust extension between the 850 and the 1150. If they are the same, the powerheads should bolt up.
