powerhead failure on ficht

I have yr 2000 evinrude ficht 200hp engine. It is 11 months out of warranty. A few weeks ago engine alarm went off.It coded ignition failures for all 6 cylinders when my dealer hooked up the diagnostic computer. Bombardier replaced the engine's computer at no charge just my dealers labor. Two hours after running the engine after the new computer was put in a cylinder blew so powerhead is now shot. A coincidence or not please advise what to do. Thankyou.

Howdy, Happy Fisherman.<br /><br />You don't mention if your engine was upgraded to Bombardier specs. <br /><br />V6 Ficht engines built before the Bombardier redesign were notoriously unreliable. Many credit those engines with the death of OMC.<br /><br />Bombardier originally honored warranties on engines 2001 and later only. You got a real nice freebie when they gave you a new ECU.<br /><br />I would call the final grenade as a coincidence.

Bombardier honored the original warranty for all 2000 and later outboards.<br /><br />What "blew" in your motor? Has the mechanic found the cause?<br /><br />Call customer service when the problem is found and see if they will help in some way.

The engine was old omc and the warranty was honored for two years. The mechanic has no idea why the one cylinder blew. So the new computer was put in and two hours later blown powerhead? Oh well it was probably time to upgrade my boat anyway. Thanks for your two replies so far.

What happened inside the cylinder? Was it overheat or lack of lube? Detonation damage? Stuck rings from carbon that scored the cylinder wall? Water ingestion?<br /><br />Don't give up yet, give them a call with the motor serial number.

At what point in time are the Fichts Bombardier spec'd. I'm looking at a boat with two that have "born-on" dates of 12/01 and 1/02.

Whaler15SS,<br /><br />Bombardier started prodcution in September of '01, so your motors are 2002 models and are fully manufactured and warranteed by Bombardier.
