powerhead swap

hey all, i'm just wondering if an '79 johnson 175hp powerhead would be able to be switched for an '88 johnson 175hp. thanx.

No, it will not interchange. The exhaust setup is different.<br /><br />This is easily recognized as per the 1979 175hp has a flat exhaust baffle plate, whereas the 1988 175hp has the extended (bubble) type exhaust baffle plate (same as the old 235hp models).

If they are both crossflows You can change it but you must change the adapter plate and inner exhaust housing
