Hi, im replacing powerhead bolts that bolt the powerhead to the exhaust/middle section.
These bolts on outboards ive worked on often seem to seize due to their positioning in the salt spray zone. Ive twisted the head off some of these bolts before which were done up for over a decade. Getting them out after that really is not great times.
Should i put in stainless steel high tensile or is just stainless ok? I intend to coat them in permatex aviation form a gasket and back them out every couple of years.
Thanks

Normally Mercs have stainless steel fine thread studs holding the powerhead to the midsection. You should see about 6 - 8 nuts holding the powerhead to the midsection. What motor do you have?

Go get some OMC gasket sealer, the brown sticky stuff. I use this on all my bolts and it works, salt water as well. Most bolts I remove, other than those needing thread locker, get the OMC sealer.
