Re: powerloss need help
You will need a can of spray carb cleaner, a set of plugs (champion UL18V or equiv), ValvTect outboard decarb cleaner (available at most boat dealers),and a screwdriver.
Old gas is the biggest problem reported here on Iboats, and I can't stress enough the importance of getting old gas out of the entire system before using the engine, and do it every season.
What you now have in your tank is new gas mixed with varnish.
The next step is to remove the fuel filter located in the fuel pump (one screw holding the cap on which this screen is under),and cleaning it with the carb cleaner spray.
Remove and replace all inline filters.
Decarb the engine before replacing the plugs.
Follow the directions on the can.
Install the new plugs.
If possable, remove the carb bowl, and clean it out with the carb cleaner. While you have it off, spray some up the intake tube.move the float by hand (carefully,as it's easy to bend the seat tang out of adjustment),and make sure the needle valve is not sticking.
Re-assemble the carb's bowl, and take it for a ride.
