I am a new member as of today. I have enjoyed reading the posts searching for my problem. I have chased an intermittent high rpm miss for two years. When the engine runs right it runs like new. Here is what I have done. Cleaned the fuel tank, new fuel hose, new filter, rebuilt the fuel pump, and replaced cracked primer pump. No improvement. Overhauled both carbs, replaced coils, new sparkplugs and plug wires. No improvement. Removed all electrical grounds, cleaned and resecured. Metered the power pack and the component under the flywheel. All passed my volt ohm tests. I have a background in automotive repair and realize intermittent problems are the hardest to pinpoint. Being a manual start makes it even more difficult. I don't have a relationship with an experienced local evinrude technician that I can bring the boat to. The reasonableness in price of the replacement parts has made it easier to throw parts at my problem. Plus it is all original and 20 years old. Could a powerpack fail in the way that I have described? It seems to be heat related even though the engine runs plenty cool. It will seem ok leaving the ramp, and then 5 minutes later the miss will show up and then leave. Coming off of full throttle it is fine. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
