Powertrim problem

My powertrim works intermittenly. I can tap on the trim motor and it will start again. I was told to check the oil in the unit but I do not know how to check or refill it. Can someone help?

Sounds like it's the motor instead of the fluid problem, because if you can tap on the motor and it works, it is defective.
