Re: Powerturns?

I may be wrong in my thinking here but I do believe I'll be doing power turns for the foreseeable future. Due to all the other dumb A** drivers out there, I want to get my kids out of the water as fast as possible to avoid them getting hit by some drunk that's not paying attention.

Re: Powerturns?

you can get back almost just as fast by slowing to turn.
Power turns can be a problem in busy water but the wave isn't the end of the world (or boating day) like the uptight utube poster complains about it.

I'm all for good manners, but if that's what you're worried about, tie up in a cove. I want to be safe, but I also bought my boat to have fun, not to worry about someone that's not happy with waves while on a boat! Sorry, just my opinion.

Airdvr.....not directed toward you, but the video poster!

My first thought is to get back to the child that just got dumped. Also, I beleive if I slow down too fast I could swamp my rig. I slow and turn at the same time to get away from the wave.

Imagine....someone's upset because of waves on the water.

slowing down too fast isn't an issue, if it is the boat is unsafe. think what happens if you are at WOT and your engine quits.

If you could get swamped by slowing too fast, your boat is very unsafe.

This isn't about the waves or having fun, its just common sense. (Boy I haven't seen any of that in a long time)

A few years ago I saw a short squatty jet boat do a power turn and the boat flipped. 4 teenagers and no PFDs. I think it was 3 or 4 days till the one girl's body finally turned up.

I wasn't aware it was a problem either...in fact, when I'm pulling a tube or kneeboarder, my riders and I actually LIKE pulling into/through waves caused by the power turns of others...

I'll second that... it makes it fun. For the lake I'm on, we have still water areas for floating/relaxing/swimming out of the main area where others tube and ski. I say make more wakes, just respect the areas on a larger lake where people go away from these high activity places.

He thinks thats rough water? He should spend a Saturday afternoon on the Lake of the Ozarks. ;)

I was thinking that too...we have a local lake here that on the summer weekends, I've seen 5+ foot chop out in the middle from the all the wakes.

Powerturns are fun on a smooth day. Nothing like doing 50 MPH in a flat bottom Ski Nautique and turning a 90? turn real quick. Better than the rides at Six Flags over GA.

When it is absolute glass I do consider riders and their desire for that water. If you ever Slalom Skied you'd understand. If the water is already choppy then so what? Glass and a Wakeboarder or Skier around, I throttle back and watch ;)

Re: Powerturns?

Power turns? Heck by their very design WAKE board boats screw up the water just going straight. So what.

That kinda looks like Lake Havasu, if it is, hell, is wasted by 10am on a good day from the wind.

I could see NOT doing it right by someone just for the heck of it. That would be in poor taste.
