I'm looking for rope for my prawn trap and thought the poly (yellow) 1/2 would be the best price $39 cdn and would also be handy for using as a sternline.
They sell designated prawntrap leaded line @ $59 a roll -400 feet.
Is the poly going to float the trap? Thinking of grabbing the leaded line it has a nice plastic spool. your thoughts?

Re: prawntrap line

My FIL uses poly on his coated wire mesh traps. He puts either 2 or 4 traps on a string and uses a small weight on a clip about 1/2 way down. The poly won't float the traps, but the excess line floating around can be a hazard to you or others. Leaded line is nice, but the poly is more multi-purpose. Happy prawning! :D

The poly is nice in that it does float and you can just attach a sinker where needed, the leaded line all sinks and depending on how much excess it can get caught up in rocks, other traps, or anything else down there that it makes its way around sometimes makeing it impossible to bring up your trap and you end up losing everything, it has happened twice to my cousin this year, and once to me, where nothing was going to pull up the trap and basically had to cut the rope. We even used a big float and a pully system and used his boat with the float to try and bring it up, I don't know what the systems is called but alot of people use it for anchors.
