I made it home safely from Ghana ... great trip, much accomplished, became a Microsoft Certified Teaching Facility ... much more done. It was pretty awesome how everything came together.

Hurried home because my FIL was not doing well. Has been battling esophagial cancer for serveral years now. Getting the better of him now. While I was on the plane his feeding tube plugged. It became decision time and he would not make any decision with any of his 7 kids. I walk into his room when I stopped coming home from airport and he starts talking ... no operation, no heroic measures, when it is his time, let him go.

Next morning (yesterday) we are all meeting with Dr. Some of the kids (Late 50's) are not happy. But long and short is that Pap has about 2 weeks left on this earth without any nutrition. Please keep the family in your prayers. Pap is ready to meet Jesus and be re-united with the love of his life who died 7 years ago. Pray for a peaceful end, and peace in the family, that siblings will honor Pap's request. Thanks.

Needless to say, this will keep me pretty busy ... between getting caught up from the trip and dealing with family issues. So I will not be around much for a while. Thanks for being here for me ...

Aspeck, I know exactly what you will be facing. Don't forget that in being strong for your family, you also need to listen to your own emotional needs.

Take a break from others if you can and allow yourself to greive and express your sorrrow and distress in private. Then you can again unite with your loved ones and be strong for them.

This is going to be a hard and difficult journey these coming days. Godbless you.

Re: Prayer Request ...

In times like this Ive found only one thought for all involved that makes any sense

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand

I wish you all god's grace and promised serenity

Re: Prayer Request ...

Having watched my mother go through something similar, I feel comfortable in saying that sometimes it is very humane to accept that it is "time." There is very simply a point at which quality of life becomes an issue and the person suffering can make a very well reasoned decision to accept fate. If that person is religious, I think there is an added dimension to the acceptance - there is a certain peace that falls into place.

That your FIL chose you to speak to about his decision, speaks volumes about the relationship that you had with him. You have obviously been a good SIL, and have been someone that he trusts to help his children and grandchildren through this. My thoughts are with him and his family. They are also with you for the burden of being a leader in this.
