Pre '78 Lower unit swap

Is there any info on pre '78 motors? Looking for info for 69-up 85-125 J/E outboards.. Big question is this: will the lower from a 69 Evinrude PHYSICALLY bold on to the 73-up powerheads? I am not worried about the electric cables for the electric shift, that's EZ stuff... just want to know if it will bolt on.

Hey There
The casing for the lower units will all bolt on, to all years but it is what is inside that is
drastically different
Driveshafts splines vary with differeint years
Waterpump tubes and pickups vary in years.
I just put on a rebuilt gear casing on my 1975 115 Evinrude
Here is what I found out for V4's
1968-72
1973-76
1977-80
1981-85
1985-2000
These years have differences,how little they are, they are there
