Alright I just graduated college and am thinking about buying my first fishing boat.. I'm not looking for much, mainly just an aluminum boat with a couple of benches. I found a 1992, 18ft LUND alaskan, which has three benches with the back as a split bench. It has a 2000 40hp yamaha 2 stroke motor, fish finder.. i dunno much about but it has the landscape feature (told it was a pretty high end model), lights, swivel seat, ez load galvanized trailer, rod holders, etc... anything i should do or check out before i make the final decision... he's asking $2,000 obo.. any help would be appreciated.. including whether or not this is a good deal

Thanks

Sounds way too cheep to me!
Check compression on the motor(must)
Does it leak?
Check the transom for rot(If you can get at it)
Is it stolen?(make sure he has a title)
For that price as long as it runs and floats it sounds like a good deal to me.

thats a crazy deal if the engine is well maintained. Friend of mine just spent close to $2500 for a pretty new 40 horse outboard alone

Sounds like a great deal! If the stickers and trailer plates are current, definately take her for a spin if you have not done so. Would you buy a car without test driving it??

Another thought...
I love to fish my self but have found on those weekends when it is to hot to fish, tubing can be a blast. 40hp may not be enough power to pull a tube at any fun speed. Just a thought.

Good luck and welcome to the expensive hobby of boating :D
