pre ignition detonation

does pre ignition detenation sound like a standard car running in a high gear at low rpm? i have been having some issues i thought was due to improper propellar pitch but have been duing some investigating and think this might be the problem, gonna get a advance timing light and set the points. any one know the specs? thanks

I know the specs for the 07 3.0L Merc I just finished up.

It depends on you distributor. Is it Delco or prestolite

AC plug...MR43T
Champion plug...RV8C
Plug gap...0.035"
Point gap...0.022"
Point dwell...28-34 degrees
Timing...6 degrees BTDC
Fuel pressure...3-6 psi
Oil pressure @2000 RPM...30-60 psi
Idle RPM in gear...650-700
WOT RPM...4200-4600
