Never had one and don't know anything about them. How do they (VISA) make their money off them? Are they worth the effort? How do you go about getting one? Any more info will be greatful,,,,,,,,Thanks.......SS

We do have CC's, but they are frozen until they are paid off through credit counseling. Just 16 more months to go, but we need something for online purchases. Was thinking this would be the way to go for now. Again,,,,Thanks

The vendors still pay a percentage on every purchase made with the pre-purchased Visa, just as they do with the regular Visa.

SS,
my son just got a "pre paid" visa card, but it is not a pre paid.
he went to ohio legacy bank here in wooster and opened a checking account, insted of checks they give him a visa card and a pin number.
it works just like a checking account the card is only good for what money in the account insted of writeing paper checks.
the card also works at atms.

woosterken, that's a Debit Card. not a prepaid card. if it has the Visa or Master Card logo on it. it can be used for internet orders. we use prepaid Visa cards for the kids when they are traveling, this way if for some reason, all we have to do is go online and refill the card. instantly. we also used them when they were in College. they got their monthly allowance, had to learn to budget, when it's gone, it's gone.

Re: Pre-paid VISA's

Ayuh,....

My 1st CC was a Capital 1,....
I had to deposit $500.00 into a Savings Account at their Bank,+ that gave me a $500.00 Credit Limit,.....
The bill came every month,+ it was paid like any other CC....
In the end, I canceled it,+ closed the Savings as well.....
But it was a pretty Good Credit Builder for me,.....
Within a year, I had Pre-approved Offers flooding my mailbox, at Good rates....

Ken,.... Your Son's card sounds like my Debit Card,... I never tried it for On-line stuff,...
Just local ATMs....

Good Luck SS...

Thanks, sounds like a better deal than usning a credit card. That way your not spending what you don't have. These last 3 years of this counseling is like have 3 kids in college at the same time.:D

Makes it rough getting the boat ready. The weather has warmed a bit and went out to the boat. Oh my how the weather has beaten her down. Stupid things just need replaced. The gas filler cap is messed up, hopefully I can just get the screw in plug. Then I forgot to put the life ring inside. I grabbed the rope and it felt like needles going into my hand. The rope has deteriorated and feels like hundreds of fish hook points. So I'm going to need a new one of them since the rope is sewed into it. Fire extenguisher guage looks like it needs serviced. Yep, nickle dime time again. Thank God I Love Boating :D

Re: Pre-paid VISA's

I have used the pre-paid credit cards for our children when they are going on a trip. There is a service charge each time you load it up but that is it. Works much better than giving them cash and they can also get a hotel, travel ticket or cash advance from it. The good thing we found is that they budget well from it as they have to face the wrath of Dad if they run it out for no apparent reason. The other thing is that if they are travelling and have an emergency we can instantly top it up from home.
I know a few others that use them to rent vehicles etc because of bad credit rating.
Handy really as you never actually owe the credit card company, therefore no compounding interest !!!!
Remember I am from Canada, it may not work this way elsewhere.

Re: Pre-paid VISA's

in canada.... most of us use debit cards.....

i know the americans love their cheques......but if you go to the 7-11 here and give them a cheque...they would laugh at you.....

but debit cards dont build credit.......

as far as bond-o's little capitol one cc.....thats how i rebuilt my credit.....

i gave then 75 bucks...they gave me a 200 limit......i know have many cards....(more in a minit).....but i still keep my little capitol one with a low limit...$800.....because if i rent a car....and wreck it...the renting company tries to put the full value on the cc....then you deal with the insurance compamy....and if your renting a car...your most likely out of town...the rent a car company has wracked your cc...so you gotta pay the hotel outta pocket!......

in canada...its better for you if you have 2or 3 cards with large balances on them.....rather than 10 cards with small balances on them....your credit score will increase as much as 100 points....
(i think its a 580) here...and they will give you whatever you want....
weird how it works.....

Re: Pre-paid VISA's

PP visas are good for people who have bad credit/no credit. Like stated above, they eliminate the chance of getting into debt, as you can't spend more than you put on the card.

They're zero risk for businesses. I used to sell these, however, I don't know if charges are incurred each time you add money.

I never carry cash or checks, only my credit card which I rarely if ever use, and my debit card which I use for everything. It's just so much more convienient. A few years ago though, occasionally I would run across a fast food place that wouldn't take them, so I'd just leave after telling the mgr's how they were loosing business by not keeping up with the times. Now I can't think of any place that won't accept a card.

I like them because even if I do get my wallet or card stolen, I'm not out any money. All I have to do is call my bank and let them know.

Re: Pre-paid VISA's

They already watch my every move because of my job, so knowing what I spend my money on isn't a big deal to me.
