Prep boat for paint?

I am going to repaint the interior of my 14' aluminum boat but should I get it down to the bare metal first? What could I use to do this? - Sorry I'm still new to this stuff!

Also, I need suggestions on exactly what "type" of paint of should use. I am going to use spray paint, Rustoleum, to be exact. The color is going to be tan, preferably lighter colored. I want something that will not wear off very easily, maybe the Rustoleum Camo spray paint?

Any help would be great, thanks!

And here is the interior that I will be painting.

It looks like a bad camo spray can job was done with no primer. If you had original paint, you could just scuff and repaint but I think that will need to be all stripped and primed to get good adhesion.

The strange thing is that the outside of the boat was primed but the interior apparently wasn't. The outside camo looks really nice actually. The interior was obviously entirely painted recently but it wore off very fast.

Now back to my previous question.. HOW can I strip all of the old interior paint and get it to the original bare metal?

paint thinner and a scraper

Sorry I should've known that! Like I said I'm new to this haha.

Now, for paint, I want Rustoleum - spray paint. But what kind should I get? I need something that will not wear off very easily. I was thinking a light tan/tan color. Maybe the spray camo?

That was not primed properly. You need to get most of it off and prime with zinc chromate or an etching primer..... or it will look like that again quick!

FYI I did not paint any part of this boat. I bought it as it was. What about just using regular old spray-on primer? Any help with what paint I should use after the primer, anybody?

rustoleum works fine just about any rattle can paint will work but you have to properly prime.....

Rattle cans will cost you more money in the long run...... rustoleum from a quart can should be enough to do it all..... maybe 2 quarts...... don't forget to prime

Go to an auto parts store and get etching primer...... I would hate to see the rustoleum primer fail Aluminum is a funny metal and has to be treated right
