Re: prep for awlgrip question
Yup .. ditto back at ya.
The First coat is in fact a very light mist coat that does not Cover anything.. just a Dusting ( I can dust coat a 45 footer in about 5 minutes and use about 1 pint of paint ).
The second coat is ( assuming your using the grey 545 primer ) is Almost enough to Cover the primer/or base color if your spraying RED. Your "third coat" ( which is really the second coat because the dust coat does not count ) is were it gets tricky..its just enough to Cover your primer..wet enough to flow..but not to wet that it runs.
* Tricks of Awlgrip *
Buy and USE " crater X ". Follow directions.
Your first Wet coat try to juuuust cover any inside radi or around fittings or complex areas .. use the second ( last coat ) in a full sweep ignoring those complex areas or you WILL run it unless you know what your doing.
Use ACETONE to flush and clean your gun/equipment. Nix the Laq thinner.
Full face respo, gloves taped to a full hooded suit and between sprays get away.
Please dont do this in your back yard .. have a proper place/booth to spray this stuff.
Good luck

typically 2-3 coats about an hour or so between coats.
The first coat is a "tack coat" and will be pretty light; essentially a mist coat over the entire area. After that tacks, then the 2nd coat can be sprayed heavier as it will have something to stick to.
