I have just purchased a Bayliner with a 70 hp force motor(2cycl). The problem is it has been sitting for three years with no up keep. What are some must do's aside from the oils and plugs being changed out. I havent dared to turn it over yet. The motor has very low hours on it.Any mechanics or "do it yourselfers" got some real solid tips on this one? I hope so...turcotts@gwi.net

Bayliner,

I just fired up a Rude that's been sleeping for 15 years. Here is what I did.

1. Rebuilt the Carburetors.
2. Rebuilt the fuel pump.
3. Replaced every piece of rubber tubing.
4. Replaced water pump impeller.
5. Changed lower unit lube w/ new seals on the plugs.
6. Checked EVERY electrical connection under the cowl.

While I was doing all of that, I was periodically spraying "fogging oil" in the spark plug holes and turning it over by hand.

When I did start it, I ran double oil mixture through it for about an hour.

Yours hasn't been asleep that long. You can probably get away with doing items #4,5 and 6. Along with putting fogging oil in the spark plug holes while your messing with the other stuff. Might not hurt to run it a little rich the first time out.
