Pressed-in Zerk grease fittings

I have LoadRite trailer that's only a few years old and when I went to lube the hubs and surge brake actuator a could of pressed-in grease fittings pulled out

Trailer is well built and not cheap, why couldn't they have used threaded Zerk grease fittings.

The hubs are Knott.

The surge brake act is TDE...

While I have gotten replacement Zerk fittings for the hubs I have yet to even see one listed on the TDE (now Dexter) parts list for the surge brake actuator.

LoadRite and Dexter have not responded to emails.

Knott responded and I got replacement Zerk fittings from them.

True, the $0.10 difference in the fitting, the $0.40 difference in the hub machining, about $1 less labor is a small amount at the front end........

The cost difference at the end of the day once the trailer is built, shipped , sits in the dealers inventory, (with all the compounded interest, overhead) etc is probably $20 per zerk to the end user from a drive in version vs a tapped version.

Properly sized hole, the zerk should not have come out

Have been known to tap a tread into those holes and screw in a threaded zerk
When I checked for the spec'ed hole size for self taping Zerk fittings it's smaller the the hole size for the pressed-in ones.

I will tap in replacement Zerk fittings. And get a grease gun coupler with a lever to release.

I am really saying why didn't the manufacturer spend the extra money and tap the holes and use screw-in Zerks?

there are also metric threaded zerk fittings.

would you pay $20 per hub more for the trailer?

From a Service stand point, it’s easier to remove and replace pressed hardware than D&T
