pressure check your own exhaust manifolds ??

Hi All,
I'm sure many of you have pressure checked your own exhaust manifolds.

Do you add pressure to the exhaust side or coolant side?
what kind of caps do you use to seal off what needs sealing off?
How much air pressure do you use and how long do you keep it in there?

If you have any pics, I'd appreciate it.

I was playing in the shop today and made a contraption to check the ones on my 4.3 v-6, but it was a long process and sure wasn't pretty LOL.

I'm just curious how you all do it.

Ayuh,......

Rather than a Pressure Test,.....
I've just set them up with the water ports plugged,+ fill'em up to the top with Kerosine,+ then look down thru the exhaust ports,+ Look for leakage......

If they're Cracked,.... The Kerosine will flow right thru'em.....

You do mean fill the water passages with the Kerosene, right?

wnc, you're trying to see if cooling water is leaking into the exhaust ports and into your motor. So to answer your question the way you asked it, you put the pressure to the coolant side.
But as Bondo says, you really don't need pressure, gravity will do it for you.

this isn't a 4.3. but it does leak..... i just filled the water jacket with water and left it overnight..... by morning, the exhust runner was full of water, the water jacket was empty....
